About Epicuring

Epicuring (verb) : In pursuit of knowledge and enjoyment of food.

Laiko and Susie epicuring with Telltale Preserves Co in San Francisco

Epicuring came from our efforts to plan food-oriented trips around California. We found we spent more time researching than “epicuring.”

So we created Epicuring—a hand-picked directory, calendar, and newsletter of food events. Now it’s easy to discover and enjoy the best in California food experiences. Learn about us Epicurators and how you can get involved!

Our Mission is to bring Californians and travelers the best California food experiences, through our hand-picked guide and unforgettable food events we’ll craft with our partners. Epicuring is a community effort and we welcome contributions from food lovers, food experience organizers, and everyone in between.

Our Vision is to bring attention to intriguing and rewarding food experiences, events, farms, and organizations; to inspire the creation of new food experiences; to have a big impact on local economies and the state of California through food tourism; and to enjoy the pleasures of life with our community of Epicurists. Epicuring is a resource for the food media and food writing community on California related content, stories, people and resources.

Values: We live our lives with integrity, authenticity, passion and fun. As connectors and social entrepreneurs who thrive when joining new friends around food, we commit to running our Epicuring project with transparency and joy. In all of our interactions we will involve community members, invite new California food fans into the fold, and make Epicuring a destination loved by locals and visitors alike.

We hope you’ll experience bliss through our discoveries and perhaps join us as an “epicurator.”

The Kinds of California Food Experiences You’ll Find Here

Checking out the Experience Types gives you a good idea of what we’re trying to highlight – food experiences you’d write home about. There’s plenty of restaurant and cooking school directories, so you’ll see we focus on all the other great activities such as:

  • Classes in kitchens, restaurants, community centers, and farms.
  • Tours both urban (we love factory tours!) and rural.
  • Workshops with local food producers, farmers, and food advocacy groups.
  • Rare chef events and multi-course meals the Romans would envy.
  • Classic eateries around the state, the ones people drool over when they look back.
  • Readings with awesome authors.
  • Festivals, fairs, and markets you may otherwise not know about.
  • Tours and tastings, both small scale and large.
  • Foraging and everything else learning oriented.
